WACREN, the West and Central African Research and Education Network, organized its second regional capacity building workshop in Abuja, Nigeria, on 28 September – 2 October 2015.  The workshop provided the opportunity to have several meetings with datacenter providers and education stakeholders towards realisation of the WACREN cloud and shared services strategy.

Attendees at the conference included Prof. Suleiman Bogoro, the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) and top management of Galaxy Backbone led by their CEO, Mr Yusuf Kazaure. Galaxy Backbone is the connectivity and IT services provider for the government of Nigeria.

A session with Mr Peter Jack, the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) was held the following day with colleagues from the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology.

The WACREN team also met with executives of MainOne and Rack Center, providers of Tier III datacenters in Lagos.
