TANDEM events workshops Dkar Senegal March 2016

The TANDEM project is organising a second series of events – meetings and workshops – that will all be held in Dakar, Senegal on March 15-16, 2016. The objective is to raise awareness on the project objectives and activities, get the support from the policy makers in the region and trigger the involvement of the members of the higher education sector in Ghana and the West and Central Africa region in general, in the project’s actions.

Here is the Agenda:

  • Open Science Workshop – March 15, 2016 / 9 am – 5:30 pm

Jointly organised by TANDEM, Sci-GaIA and MAGIC projects on the theme of “Promoting Open Science in Africa”.

This Workshop presents the opportunity to hear the opinions of leading African Scientists and to see recent advances in Open Science services that have been developed for African Scientific Communities of Practice.

The Workshop also gives the opportunity to see how Science Gateways, e-Infrastructures, Open Access Data Repositories and Research Registries can be used to support Open Science, as well as understanding the key roles and contributions that organisations such as National Research and Education Networks, DataCite, ORCID and THOR and international cooperation projects including TANDEM, Sci-GaIA and MAGIC are making to Open Science.


  • PODWAG Meeting / March 15, 2016 – 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm

PODWAG is the Policy and Donors West and Central Africa Group created by TANDEM project. Discover PODWAG role and structure. The PODWAG members will take the opportunity of this second face-to-face meeting to define their respective roles, the interaction mechanisms and the constitution of their working groups.


  • TANDEM National and Regional Awareness and Dialogue Workshop  – March 16, 2015 / 9 am – 3:30 pm

With a particular focus on specific thematic topics (health, food security, environment) this workshop will represent an opportunity to spread awareness and debate with national and regional stakeholders on the strengthening of Infrastructures in West and Central Africa. It will benefit from the collocation with the WACREN 2016 Conference to attract high-level participants.

Among the topics that will be discussed:

  • Promoting regional connectivity in Africa
  • Senegalese Research and Education Network and its Community


  • TANDEM  Community Workshop – March  16, 2015 / 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm

The Community workshop is intended to gather the representatives of National Research and Education Networks, respectively the NREN Focal Points – and reinforce their community through dialogue opportunities between them and with the policy makers, donors and regulatory authorities as well as with the end-users. The goal of this event is also to transfer skills on: implementing and animating a community of practice; using the collaboration platform; using the social media; elaborating a work plan, with goals, roles, activities and deadlines for the communities.

Among the topics that will be discussed:

  • The Role of NREN Focal Points
  • The TANDEM National Research Education Network Survey – analytics
  • The Colaboratorio Platform

These events are organised by WACREN in cooperation with the TANDEM project partners, especially the Regional and National Education Networks such as UbuntuNet Alliance, CLARA and GEANT. The TANDEM series of events are collocated with the WACREN  Conference 2016.
